I am in love! And, I could kick myself! This week the very first of the ProCut White Lite Sunflowers bloomed. As I stood in front of them, staring into their beautiful little glowing faces, I immediately knew that I had made a very big mistake. . .
The ProCut White Lite has creamy, pale yellow petals and a golden-green center. Their blooms are 4-6” around on 5-6 foot stems. They are absolutely stunning. Another word that comes to mind is “luminescent.” They seem to radiate the sunlight, starting from the center and out through the petals. And, talk about flexibility! Not only are they gorgeous as a single flower bouquet, but they coordinate with nearly every color palette making them a great focal flower for arrangements. Purple, peach, pink, yellow, blues, white, green-you name it. . .they work with it all!
So, there is “the love” part. Now, comes the heartbreak! Growing these beauties was an experiment, of sorts. This was actually the first time for us growing this variety. I do not usually grow a lot of sunflowers because they are often too large for our small jar arrangements. But, when I saw them in the Johnny’s catalog looking so pretty, I thought I would give them a try. The problem is, I only planted 1 pack of 50 seeds. What a mistake that was! (the heartbreak). Charlie and I are already planning to turn the current bed of mixed sunflowers varieties into an “All ProCut White Lite Zone” next season! That will hopefully give us at least 300 of these beauties for summer 2024. We will just have to make a new bed somewhere else in 2024 for all of the “other” sunflower varieties!
